Guidelines when producing Artwork for Print
If possible, please supply your file as a Print-ready PDF.
Most design and print packages will give you an option to save as a PDF.
Bleed: If you have a background colour or image that prints to the edges of the
paper be sure to add an extra 3mm ‘bleed’ to each side.
Safe Area: Likewise make sure any text or headings or borders are at least 5mm
inside the edge of paper. (which will be at least 8mm from edge of bleed).
The same rule of 3mm extra 'bleed' to each side and minimum of 5mm 'safe area' applies to all designs, whether it be a Business Card, Postcard, Flyer, Poster or anything else.(no need for bleed if your design has a white background or white border all round).
Resolution: Avoid using low resolution images from the web which will ‘pixelate’ when printed - ideally they should be 300dpi at the size they are to be printed.
Also Remember to embed or outline fonts, flatten layers, and save your files in
CMYK before providing us with your final PDF.
CMYK: Most images use RGB colour, which can make them appear slightly
brighter than they will actually print. Using Photoshop is the easiest way to
change your images from RGB to CMYK very quickly:
Open the file and click Image > Mode > CMYK colour.
This will convert the colour values and make the image ‘printer friendly’.
